Looking Back to the Future

Reconnect – Reflect – Renew – Reassess

Workshop participants will:

  • Refresh individual language skills
  • Reconnect to the love of language learning
  • Improve themes and assessments to better engage students and reflect student performance
  • Use the Wisconsin Language Roadmap to plan for local program development
  • Unpack and plan how to implement the new Wisconsin Standards for World Languages  
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan for standards and proficiency-based learning

Monday July 29, 2019 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Registration Lowell Center

9:00 – 12:00 Reconnect – Immersion Workshop

Re-immerse yourself in your language of instruction. Meet with colleagues of the same language to practice your craft, network, and learn how to facilitate student interaction in a fun environment.  Participants will get the boost they need to reconnect to the language learner experience. Whatever your fluency level, leave revitalized.

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch on your own (NOT included in workshop registration)

1:00 – 4:00 Reflect – Upping Your Game with Performance Assessments

An experienced trio will share their journey and expertise of how they have developed engaging thematic units using unique and authentic performance assessments and implemented proficiency based rubrics.D

9:00. – 12:00 Renew – Connecting the Dots for a World-Ready Wisconsin 

Make connections between Wisconsin Language Roadmap recommendations, revised Wisconsin Standards for World Languages, and your local language program.

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch on your own (NOT included in workshop registration)

1:00 – 4:00 Reassess – Facilitated Planning and CollaborationR

Leverage the Language Roadmap and revised standards to set goals and plan for program development and student learning. Consult and collaborate with colleagues to prepare for the new school year and into the future.

Bring a TEAM of two teachers or more from your school district and receive a 20% discount on registration.

Lunch is NOT included in Registration. Lunch is on your own.

All teachers on your TEAM must be WAFLT members to qualify for the group discount.

After contacting Lisa Hendrickson, each TEAM member will receive a coupon that entitles him or her to the TEAM DISCOUNT.

PAYMENT PROCEDURES After making your selections on the online registration form, you may choose to pay by:

  • MC/Visa

  • Purchase orders are NOT accepted
  • Late or on-site registration: additional $10.00


  • WAFLT Summer Institute refund requests must be made in writing by July 3, 2019, and sent to treasurer@waflt.org and wafltsi@waflt.org .
  • A service charge of $25.00 is applied to all refunds unless the request is made within forty-eight hours of initial registration.
