About the LEDE Modules

The Language Educator Development E-learning Modules reach out to Language instructors and preservice teachers as they continue their professional growth as world language educators. These modules assist with the integration of Standards for Learning World Languages, Curriculum Planning, and Performance-based Assessment. In addition, they help educators meet some of the requirements of National Board Certification and the new WI Professional Development Plan.

Note to pre-service teachers: To benefit more fully from these modules, it is recommended that at a minimum pre-service teachers have or currently are in the process of observing a practicing world language instructor.

Each module is made up of multiple sections that are designed to take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Some sections may require additional time for reading. The module sections include: remember, learn, connect-reflect. Some modules may have multiple instances of a section and/or include an expansion activity.

  • Remember: this part activates background knowledge and requires the user to consider their current teaching practices.
  • Learn: this part is an introduction to the content to be learned and requires additional outside reading.
  • Connect-reflect: this part is a check of the users new knowledge and an opportunity to reflect back on current teaching practices and consider future applications in light of this new knowledge.

The Knowledge Base provides a variety of resources to assist in completing the modules as well as additional information on technology integration in language instruction and web resources of interest to language teaching professionals.

In order to complete the modules you will need to purchase the Planning Curriculum for Learning World Languages guide, available through the Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction. In various parts of the modules you may see the title of this publication abbreviated as LWL.
